Event to honour Woodley’s memory
The Bermuda Netball Association has introduced a new tournament for junior players to promote a healthy lifestyle and honour individuals who have given back to the sport, including La-Nae Woodley who died in a road crash in April at the age of 22.
The Youth Netball Classic will take place next Friday at Bernard Park starting at 6pm. The school tournament is different from other netball tournaments as it will include rolling substitutions, power play scoring (double points) and will introduce the young players to Fast5 netball, the latest playing format which is taking the netball-playing world by storm.
“The BNA have introduced this tournament to celebrate girls in sports, promote a healthy lifestyle at an early age, and also to honour individuals that have given back to the sport we love,” Danielle Raynor, the BNA second vice-president, said. “Each year we will honour someone who has played a significant role in youth development or netball as a whole.
“This year the BNA have chosen to honour the late La-Nae Woodley who passed away earlier this year in a road accident. LaNae generously gave her time to umpire and assist with coaching for the primary school age group and she will be our first honouree for our inaugural tournament.”
The event is free but donations are welcome and will go towards the BNA’s youth development programme.
