West dominate All-Star matches
Sy McPeek led the West All-Stars to a tense volleyball victory over their East rivals at Somersfield Academy in the Bermuda School Sports Federation All-Star night.
McPeek, from Saltus Grammar School, took the most valuable player award as her side won a close senior schools girls affair 14-25, 25-17, 11-8.
The senior boys salvaged some pride for the yellow-shirted East, although they also needed a tie-break to see off the West, with Jacques de Verteuil, from Warwick Academy, leading them to a 25-18, 23-25, 18-4 victory.
On a busy night of all-star games, there were three netball matches, with the West dominating proceedings.
A strong fourth quarter, and a ten-goal performance from Kaamilah Nasir, of T N Tatem, saw the West run out 18-13 winners in the middle school game.
The two teams were evenly matched through three quarters with the west leading 10-9, before they pulled away at the end.
Nasir took most valuable players honours for the winners, with Selah Tuzo, from Saltus, chipping in with four goals, while her school mates, Megan Titterton and Xe’azjah Paynter added two each.
The East was led by Christina Costello, from Somersfield, who scored seven of her side’s goals, while Izeya Wainwright, from Whitney, added six more.
The primary school game was an equally close one, with the West needing a strong finish, before winning 14-11.
Arriana Sabir, of West End Primary, lead the way with eight goals. Katelyn Madeiros, from BHS, added three.
The East were led by Alexia Pascall, from Francis Patton, who scored six goals. Kesaye Bell, from Northlands Primary, scored the other five.
In the senior schools game, the West scored early and often in their 23-16 win.
The organe-shirted West were led by Ishan-Nae Smith, from CedarBridge Academy who scored 14 goals. The East got eight goals each from the CedarBridge pair, Donnauri Robinson and Xah-Niyah Hunt.
