Impressive medal haul for Seaview team
A team of Seaview Ultimate Fitness Club athletes made their presence felt at last weekend’s Winter Classic in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The four-member team consisted of Paul Simons, Deon Brangman, Sunder Singh and Tahmeaka Thomas, who earned five medals between to cap a highly successful display against formidable competition.
Leading the charge was Singh who captured a pair of silver medals in the men’s physique class A and men’s physique masters over 30.
Policeman Simons won silver in the men’s physique masters class A while Brangman won bronze in the men’s physique open class C and narrowly missed out on the podium after placing fourth in the men’s classic physique.
Not to be outshone by her male team-mates, Thomas also basked in the spotlight after claiming bronze in the bikini open class B.
Ross Caesar, the team coach and multiple national bodybuiding champion, commended the athletes who he said demonstrated “good sportsmanship and teamwork”.
“The Winter Classic in Florida was a melting pot of over 200 athletes and I think the overall team performance was quite pleasing considering the level of competition,” Caesar said.
“Our team consisted of Tahmeaka Thomas, Paul Simons, Sunder Singh and Deon Brangman who all placed in the top three in their respective classes and also showed very good sportsmanship and teamwork.
“I’m sure the knowledge and exposure they have gained from this experience will be very beneficial for them in future competitions — both locally and overseas.”
The competition was held at the Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort under the auspices of the National Physique Committee, which is the largest amateur bodybuilding organisation in the United States.
