Bermuda will be represented by a formidable and experienced team at this year’s Central American & Caribbean Bodybuilding & Fitness Championships in Mexico City.

The 13-member squad, made of up Bermuda BodyBuilding and Fitness Federation members, contains seven competitors with previous experience at this level, five of whom have placed in the top five in their categories at past CAC Championships.

Representing Bermuda this year, from September 29 until October 1, are Jefta Miller, Kyle Santucci, Shaqir Richards, Alex Chum, Sheldon Effs, Julian Johnson, Bernard Opoku, Sunder Singh, Arlene Basden, Kai Miller, Tiffanie Smith, Sabrina Burgess and Melissa Smith.

Jefta Miller is Bermuda’s sole competitor in the men’s bodybuilding category with Santucci and Richards to compete in the classic physique category.

Chum, Effs, Johnson, Opoku and Singh are all competing in the men’s physique category.

Basden, Kai Miller and Tiffanie Smith are competing in the bikini category, Burgess in figure and Melissa Smith in women’s physique.

Jefta Miller (bodybuilding), Johnson (overall men’s physique and Class B), Chum (men’s physique Class A), Melissa Smith (women’s physique), Richards (classic physique), Kai Miller (bikini) and Burgess (figure) were all crowned winners at last weekend’s BBFF 30th Annual Night of Champions at the Fairmont Southampton.

Johnson, Melissa Smith and Opoku are the only surviving from Bermuda’s team that competed at last year’s CAC Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The trio all placed in their categories and will now look to improve on that showing this year.

Bermuda achieved two podium finishes at last year’s championships with Shameela Simmons and Tresca Trott finishing second and third in the women’s figure category.
