Ross Caesar says competing at the National Physique Committee Florida Grand Prix in West Palm Beach last weekend proved to be one of the most memorable moments of his career.
The experienced bodybuilder secured the men’s masters over-40 and overall masters titles in bodybuilding, as well as the masters over-40 classic physique title. He was also third in the light heavyweight division.
The multiple “Mr Bermuda” also savoured success as a coach as all nine of the athletes he trains at the Ultimate Fitness Gym, who also competed on stage at the Keiser University, placed in the top ten in their respective classes, four of whom produced six podium displays.
Paul Simmons won the men’s over-50 masters title in both the bodybuilding and classic physique events and was third in the over-50 masters physique.
Sunder Singh was second in the masters over-35 in the men’s physique, Shaqir Richards third in the classic physique open class and Ryan Hopkins third in the classic physique C class.
However, what stood out above all for Caesar was watching his 20-year-old son, Stefon, who attends college in Barbados, finish third in the novice physique division in his first competition.
“I was pleased with my first overall win competing in a Grand Prix show,” Caesar said.
“But to be honest what was more pleasing for me was having my son with me competing for the first time. He just wanted to try it out so he did first time novice and came third in physique. I was more thrilled with that.
“My placements were secondary to that and I was blessed seeing him on stage.
“In all of the years of competing this would probably be my most memorable experience because, not only did I do well, I also had my son there and he did an amazing job, and the team did a great job.”
Caesar admits prepping for a show while preparing others is no easy feat.
“Preparing for a show and training athletes at the same for the same time can be tedious because you have to pay attention to athletes and then reserve some time for yourself to train and prepare,” he said.
