Bermuda bowlers Rickai Binns, Damien Matthews and David Maycock claimed a silver medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia, yesterday.

Binns, Matthews and Maycock finished second in the men’s trios squad B with a total of 3,883 pins after six games.

Colombia’s Manuel Otalora, Oscar Rodriguez and Andres Gomez won gold with 3,961 pins, while Marco Moretti, Jonaykel Madriz and Javier Hernandez, of Costa Rica, took bronze with 3,876 pins.

Bermuda closed out the six-game set with 636 to overtake Costa Rica by seven pins.

In the men’s trios squad A, Bermuda’s Lamar Richardson, Duane Talbot and Levinc Samuels placed eighth with 3,283 pins.

Jon Beard, Bermuda’s chef de mission, said: “It’s a wonderful achievement by a group of athletes who truly made a real commitment to achieve this success and a commitment from their national sports governing body,” he said.

“This group has involved coaching from the US national coach and have spent a longtime honing their craft. We are all very proud of them.”

Steve Riley, who has been coaching the team since 2014, said: “The team are obviously very happy with this medal and seeing all of their hard work pay off.”

The bowlers’ silver medal is the island’s second medal at the CAC Games after Micah Franklin and Noah Browne won bronze in the men’s doubles in squash.

Bermuda triathletes Tyler Smith and Erica Hawley are both in action tomorrow.
