Nahki Wells is expected to leave Premier League side Burnley this summer, according to reports in the British media.

The Bermuda striker has made just ten substitute appearances in all competitions since joining the Lancashire side for £5?million from Huddersfield Town a year ago.

Wells, the club’s fourth-choice striker behind Ashley Barnes, Chris Wood and Sam Vokes last season, has dropped further down the pecking order after the arrival of Matej Vydra from Derby County for £11?million.

Derby are known to be keen on taking Wells on a season-long loan, as English Football League clubs can still make temporary signings until the end of this month.

Wells trained with his team-mates today as Burnley prepare for their Europa League tie at home to Istanbul Basaksehir tomorrow.

Sean Dyche, the Burnley manager, said a decision on the future of Wells has yet to be made.

“Nahki is fighting for his chance to play and there’s been a bit of interest in him from outside, but we haven’t made a decision on that and neither has he,” Dyche told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“We’re very open with our players, knowing what’s right for them and what’s right for us.”

Frank Lampard, the Derby manager, remains interested in adding 28-year-old Wells to his striking options.

“It was part of the conversation at an early stage with Vydra going to Burnley, and it didn’t come through in the end,” Lampard told the Derby Telegraph last week.

“I am actually very pleased with our attacking options as it stands, so it was one of those that got some headlines but didn’t come through. I don’t want to rule anything out but at the moment it is not my main concern, as opposed to the game against Leeds tomorrow.”

Derby signed two strikers during the transfer window to replace Vydra — Martyn Waghorn, from Ipswich Town, and Jack Marriott, from Peterborough United.

Meanwhile, another Sky Bet Championship club linked with Wells are Queens Park Rangers. who are said to be looking to bring in two loan strikers, including Tomer Hemed from Brighton & Hove Albion.
