Hall’s hitting streak finally comes to end
Adam Hall’s record-breaking hitting streak for the Aberdeen Ironbirds came to an end on Wednesday night.
Hall, who had extended his run to 19 games, went 0-for-4 in his side’s 6-1 victory over Connecticut Tigers in the New York-Penn League — “A” Class-level baseball.
Hall got back into the swing of things in Ironbirds’ second game of the night, a make-up game against Tigers, which they also won 6-1, with a hit and a score.
The 19-year-old has enjoyed a superb month, with his hitting streak dating back to his team’s August 5 match at home to Staten Island Yankees.
He played only two games last season because of an oblique injury — common in both batters and pitchers — and struggled at the start of this season, batting .179 and posting two extra-base hits in the first 20 matches. His season average is .299.
Hall’s journey in the sport began at the YAO baseball programme at Southside, St David’s.
The Bermudian moved to Canada aged 12 to pursue his baseball dreams, playing for the London Badgers in Ontario, a youth team that has produced three major-leaguers and countless other professional players.
Hall became the first Bermudian to turn professional when he signed a $1.3 million contract with the Baltimore Orioles in the Major League Baseball Draft in 2017.
The shortstop has played 59 games for the Ironbirds this season, making 211 plate appearances, including one home run and 23 RBIs.
He has scored 34 runs and is the team’s leader with 21 stolen bases. The Ironbirds are fourth in the New York Penn League McNamara standings with 36 wins and 34 defeats.
