Daniel Augustus has chalked up his early exit from this week’s Florida Elite Golf Tour Championship as a “learning process”.

The Bermuda professional carded a two-over-par 74 during Tuesday’s second round at the Orange County National Golf Club in Orlando that left him seven shots shy of the cut.

Augustus admits missing the cut was a bitter pill to swallow but believes there are “many positives” to take away from his performance.

“There are too many positives for me to feel down,” he said. “For instance, the first day [Monday] I only missed two fairways and yesterday [Tuesday] I only missed one.

“Off the tee, I hit it really well which is actually part of the game I thought I was going to struggle with. The part of my game which is typically my bread and butter, my iron’s ball striking, was horrific.

“It hurts to miss the cut but at the same time it’s a learning process and that’s what I’m taking it as.”

The 31-year old was also impressed by his short game.

“I was getting up and down from places I had no business first of all being in after being in the middle of the fairway,” Augustus added. “Then to hit some of the chip shots and pitches that I hit just showed a bit of maturity and to me a touch of class.

“I really put myself in some bad positions out of the middle of the fairway which again was uncharacteristic of me.

“But I am still happy about some of the things I did so as always I’m taking the positives and rolling with it. And, because the part of my game that was lacking is typically the best part, there’s no need to panic.

“I’m just going to work on it until the irons get good again and go from there.

“Golf is a humbling sport but I love it and I’m going to continue on.

“I’m not going to take anything for granted and continue to work hard to prepare for my next event.”
