Gavin Manders and David Thomas had to settle for a silver medal in the men’s tennis doubles after losing their final at the NatWest International Island Games in Gibralar today.

The Bermudian pair were defeated 6-2, 6-2 by Stuart Parker and Michael Watkins, of Jersey, on the final day of the biennial competition, which featured 22 islands.

Bermuda will return home with 12 medals, five silver and seven bronze, finishing seventeenth in the standings.

In athletics yesterday, Sean Trott produced an impressive performance in the men’s half-marathon, placing eighth in a time of 1hr 13min 25sec.

Sailor Kalin Hillier came fourth in the laser standard rig final with the 54 points, as did Adriana Penruddocke in the laser radial rig final with 67 points.

Also in the laser radial, Jordan Etemadi came seventeenth with 128 points, while Scott Mello finished sixteenth in the laser standard with 124 points.

In tennis, James Finnigan won the men’s singles senior plate final, beating Lucas Forsstrom, of Aland, 1-6, 6-3, 1-5.
