Wollmann set to lead out the national squad

Cecilia Wollmann has been named as the flag bearer who will lead Bermuda’s team into the opening ceremony at the Estadio Nacional tonight (Friday).

The 21-year-old sailor will carry her country’s flag at the Pan American Games curtain-raiser at the iconic 50,000-seater stadium, the home of the Peruvian national football team.

Wollmann, who was chosen for the honour by Branwen Smith-King, the Bermuda chef de mission, will march along with her brother Michael Wollmann, bowlers David Maycock, Damien Matthews, June Dill and Patrice Tucker, triathlete Erica Hawley, squash players Noah Browne, Micah Franklin and Nick Kyme, sailor Benn Smith and cyclists Caitlin Conyers and Nicole Mitchell.

Long jumper Tyrone Smith, middle-distance runner Dage Minors and swimmers Madelyn Moore and Jesse Washington have not yet arrived in Lima as their events are towards the end of the Games.

Wollmann was also selected as the torchbearer for the Americas region at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero in 2016, where she had the honour of carrying the Olympic torch through the Athletes’ Village.

She will compete alongside her brother Michael in the Nacra 17 Mixed event at the Yacht Club Peruano in the city of Paracas.
