Kings upset Wahoos to level play-off series
A shortened week saw only three playoff games played with Chubb Kings shocking A Division favourites Blue Wahoos 19-11 in a semi-final contest.
Chubb pounded out a 14-run second inning to take a commanding lead they would never relinquish. Four Chubb batters had two hits in the inning with Tory Richard (2-4) delivering a three-run homer.
Les Dziwenka and Al Busby were both 3-4 while John Rolph (2-2) also homered in the win for Chubb.
Wahoos started slowly, scoring no runs in the first three innings before rallying. Matt Katsch led his squad in going 4-4 with Chris Coleman and Derrick Holmes going 3-4 in the three and four spots in front of him. The best-of-three series is now tied at one apiece.
PHC Zebras also pulled off their own surprise when they upset Women’s League favourites Angels 17-10. However, Angels still lead the best-of-five series 2-1.
Angels took an early lead in the first with three runs but put the game away with an eight-run third that had them up 15-5.
Keisha Eve (2-3) led Angels, but Toya Raynor and Chelsea Ray were both 2-4. Natasha Trott (3-5) powered PHC by plating four runs helping clean up the table setters Tawana Fox, Taznae Fubler and Tahirah Hill who were also 3-5.
Super Express staved off being eliminated in the C Division finals when they took down Buffaloes 21-13.
Express scored two in the first, then four in the third to start off strong, before adding six runs in the final inning.
Cleanup hitter Phillip Burgess was a perfect 5-5 for Buffaloes while team-mates Antoine Williams (4-5), Arian Franks (3-3) and Chay Carlington (2-2) added much needed support.
Buffaloes looked like they were serious about going for the sweep when they scored six in the first, but sputtered after that.
John Masters (3-4), Connor Burns (3-5), and Cameron Madeiros (3-5) all had three hits for Buffaloes.
The play-offs continue at the Michael Preece Softball Diamond at Bernard Park on Monday, at 6pm.
