Sandy’s deny Warwick to seal double delight

Double delight: Sandy's Boat Club who won both the Island Construction Cup and Keen Cup

There was double delight for Sandys Boat Club’s first team, who clinched title glory against Warwick Workmen’s Club in two different cup competitions.

The first of which came in the Island Construction Cup, where defending champions Sandys took on Warwick Workmen’s Club’s second team.

Richie Beale opened the scoring for Sandys when he defeated Warwick’s Mike Zimmerman, narrowly closing him out on the colours to win 62-44.

Sandys’ Martin Siese built on that lead when he dispatched Warwick’s Ray DeSilva by 64-26.

The third frame, however, saw Zane DeSilva pull one back for Warwick, beating Sandys’ Peter Bromby by 51-38.

Steven Bremar further capitalised for Warwick as he saw off Sandys’ Paul Fedden to make it 2-2 in a convincing 50-16 win, Fedden never really being in the game.

The tie-breaker saw a rematch for Sandys’ Richie Beale and Warwick’s Mike Zimmerman. In what was the longest frame of the match, Beale clinched the win for Sandys when he saw Zimmerman off by 64-28 to retain the title.

The two teams faced off again in the final of the Keen Cup held at RAA in St George’s.

Zimmerman got Warwick off to a flying start when he overcame Sandys’ Bromby by 72-35.

Ray DeSilva then increased Warwick’s lead to two frames when he clinched victory over Sandys’ Beale in a nail-biting black ball finish by 45-42.

Fedden pulled one back for Sandys, however, in the next frame when he took out Warwick’s Zane DeSilva 67-24.

Sandys’ Siese then levelled the score when he closed out Warwick’s Bremar, clearing the last four colours to clinch a 57-49 win.

Zimmerman and Siese then faced off in the decider with Siese sealing the win for Sandys by 59-32, completing their second cup victory in the space of just seven days.
