BOA in favour of Olympic postponement
The Bermuda Olympic Association said it is “in favour” of the Olympic Games being postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Australia and Canada both decided to withdraw from the Games today while the British Olympic Association has said it is unlikely to send a team to Tokyo if the Games are held this summer.
“The Bermuda Olympic Association today announced that, whilst it will support the decision of the International Olympic Committee regarding the status of the Tokyo 2020 Games, with uncertainty regarding the duration and ongoing impact of the Covid-19 health crisis, it is in favour of the postponement of Games,” a BOA statement read.
“The safety of athletes, coaches, support personnel and their families is of the utmost importance.”
The International Olympic Committee has given itself four weeks to decide on the future of the Games, although it has been widely reported that a postponement is imminent.
