The Hamilton Parish Council will be hosting its first quality of life workshop, “Let’s Talk Money”, this evening.

The talk will be given by senior business analyst Angela Joell, an education and investment manager in the Argus wealth management team.

The presentation will look at how to talk about money, whom to talk about money with and the difference between money and wealth.

Council committee member Laverne Richardson said the council thought it was necessary to run the workshop because a lot of people in the community are experiencing stress.

“They don’t have much money,” she said. “They need to know how to use their money and how to get the most for their dollar, whether it is in business or whatever.”

Council chairman Amoti K. Nyabongo said he’d attended a number of financial workshops and information sessions over the last two years, but noticed they were often held during the day, when the people who need them most cannot attend.

“They will hold these workshops at 8.30am to 10.30am,” he said. “If you have a job or are taking care of your grandchildren or run your own business, you can’t make it to them. A lot of the information that is given out at these sessions needs to get to the broader Bermudian community.”

The Let’s Talk Money workshop will be held from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at Francis Patton Primary School at 191 North Shore Road in Hamilton Parish.

Ms Richardson said the council had a number of workshops planned targeting different sectors of the community to be held on the third Thursday of every month.

“We will be working with youth and also doing things with seniors,” Ms Richardson said. “We thought we would start with this because money is getting tight for a lot of people.”
