Constituency #5 - Hamilton East - Charles Clarke
Charles Clarke is presently employed as the Banking & Credit Manager at The Bermuda Telephone Company. He is the eldest son of the late Randall Bradford Clarke and Dr. Faith Burgess Clarke of North Shore Pembroke East.
Mr. Clarke was educated at the Prospect Primary School and The Berkeley Institute. He later went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Hotel Management from the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore along with a Master of Arts Degree in Human Resources Development from Webster University.
Upon graduating from The University of Maryland, Mr. Clarke gained valuable exposure to in the hospitality industry as the Senior Assistant Manager at the University of Maryland Hospitality Centre and The Marriott's Inner Harbor Hotel Baltimore, Maryland were he worked as Restaurant Manager. Upon his return to Bermuda, he expanded his knowledge in the hospitality industry at the Marriott Castle Harbour Resort, The Lobster Pot and Kiskadee's Restaurant.
Mr. Clarke has also worked for the Government of Bermuda as Supervisor of the Bermuda Processing Facility and Manager and Acting Director of the Transport Control Department.
Charles is well known in local sports, particularly football, where he serves as the Leagues and Competitions Chairman for the Bermuda Football Association. He is also a member and past Vice President of the Devonshire Recreation Club.
Areas of concern for Charles both nationally and locally are education, housing, the plight of single working mothers and young black males in his Hamilton Parish community. He has a passion for sustainable development having been a member of the sustainable development project team, sees a need for new development plan and additional energy sources.
Charles is married to La-Verne and they are predeceased by their only son Darron Lightbourne who passed away June 11 2005. Both Charles and La-Verne attend Mardsen First United Methodist Church.
