Dockworkers downed tools over a pay dispute yesterday, but returned to work just four hours later. The 38 workers at Hamilton Docks went on strike when they received their pay cheques at about 11am. Emergency meetings took place between the Bermuda Industrial Union and employers Stevedoring Services. Both parties are understood to have reached an agreement as the workers returned to work at about 3pm. It is understood the dispute centred around whether they should be paid for a union meetings they attended during working hours. The strike action came less than 24 hours after they agreed to lift a three-week overtime ban, which caused disruption to shipping schedules.
