British MP David Lammy to address PLP banquet
UK Labour Party MP David Lammy will be the keynote speaker at the ruling Progressive Labour Party’s annual conference banquet.Mr Lammy has been the MP for Tottenham since 2000 when he replaced the late Bernie Grant in a by-election to become, at 27, the youngest parliamentarian. A member of the Privy Council, the 39-year-old father-of-two has served in several Cabinet posts since then.He has also served as a trustee of the international development charity ActionAid and on the board of the Church of England’s Archbishop’s Council. Mr Lammy has an honorary doctorate from the University of East London, and is an associate fellow in the Centre for Caribbean Studies at the University of Warwick, and has also been awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of East London.The City of Tottenham was the first of several English cities to be hit by riots this summer. At the time he warned that youth unemployment was a key cause of the violence.The PLP’s annual conference banquet takes place this year on October 29.
