Pro-UBP poster appears in Southampton and St George’s
A wanted poster featuring Kim Swan and Charlie Swan has begun making a random appearance in Southampton and St George’s.The pair are the only two MPs elected under the United Bermuda Party who did not quit the party with the rest of their colleagues in a process which resulted in the formation of the One Bermuda Alliance.“People want us in parliament. Hopefully we will be arrested with enough votes to continuing serving the people of this country,” said Kim Swan when contacted last night. But the poster which says the two are wanted for “being honest, forthright and courageous” and offers as a reward “principled leadership”, “courage to speak out” and “representation for all” makes no mention of the UBP.“Don’t read anything into that,” said Kim Swan when the omission was pointed out to him.Asked if he was running on a UBP ticket, he replied: “Of course. If I wasn’t I would say so.”Mr Swan said that there was a volunteer supported campaign to re-elect him and Charlie Swan as United Bermuda Party MPs for their respective constituencies.“With a humble budget we are grateful for the support of our team of volunteers across the island,” he said.“We are encouraged by the support that we are receiving in our respective constituencies.”Kim Swan will be seeking re-election as the representative for St Georges West in a three-way race against the One Bermuda Alliance’s Nandi Davis and the Progressive Labour Party’s John Gibbons. He won the seat for the UBP in the 2007 election with a 17 vote majority against the PLP’s Dean Foggo.Charlie Swan will be trying to hold on to his Southampton West Central seat against the OBA’s Shawn Crockwell and the PLP’s Scott Simmons. He entered parliament when he won the 2008 by-election to replace the UBP’s Jon Brunson, with 427 votes, while the Progressive Labour Party’s Marc Bean was the runner-up with 312 votes and Raymond Davis, the independent candidate came in third with 24 votes.
