UBP demands answers on morning Rockaway service
United Bermuda Party MP Charlie Swan has called for answers over a cancelled commuter ferry service.Government announced on Monday that the 7.55am Rockaway to Hamilton service had been axed with immediate effect and without any notice.Mr Swan asked yesterday: “How much is saved in costs by cancelling the 7.55am ferry from Rockaway? It would appear fuel is saved, but staff are still paid. What do the crew do instead of being on a 'run'?”He inquired how much is lost in revenue from passengers who utilised the service and questioned whether there is a net cost saving. He also asked how passenger numbers on the service had changed month-on-month and year-on-year.Mr Swan said he also wanted to know how many people use the 8am service that still runs from Dockyard, and whether it is cost-effective.He commented: “Hard numbers do determine cutting services. Let's have them.”* This story has been edited. It was incorrecly attributed to UBP Leader Kim Swan.
