Craig Cannonier’s victory in Devonshire South Central last night was never in doubt — and the leader of the One Bermuda Alliance took advantage of it and travelled the Island yesterday supporting his party’s candidates.He skipped the count in his own constituency to rest in preparation for the announcement of the final results.Anthony Richardson ran against Mr Cannonier during the 2011 by-election as well as this one.He said while waiting outside the Botanical Gardens polling station for the count to begin: “No matter who wins, tomorrow we must regroup because the election process has been very divisive — it is important that we all work together.”Mr Richardson said that when the count was concluded he would be able to say: “It’s been a good night.”Until yesterday, Mr Cannonier was the newest Member of Parliament. He first stood for the seat a year ago after he was elected leader of the OBA following interim leader John Barritt’s retirement from politics. He could not constitutionally take on that role until he had a Parliamentary seat.In that by-election, Mr Cannonier garnered 82.89 percent of the vote; Mr Richardson was handed 12.34 percent and Mr Sullivan, a third candidate, 4.77 percent. A total of 1,035 residents were registered to vote in that poll, but just under 60 percent participated. At the 2007 general election 79.18 percent of the 1,071 registered voters took part.In this election, there were 1055 registered voters.Results:Craig Cannonier (OBA): 807Anthony Richardson (PLP): 112
