One Bermuda Bermuda Alliance candidate Shawn Crockwell secured a convincing victory in Southampton West Central last night.The final count, 520 votes for Mr Crockwell who defeated the Progressive Labour Party’s Scott Simmons with 284 votes. Independent candidate Charles Swan trailed with 77 votes.Mr Crockwell said he was pleased with the OBA victory.“It was a convincing victory; we worked very hard,” said Mr Crockwell. “I think it is a message from the constituents that they want change.“I’m hoping that its reflective across the Island and we can take the country in a different direction. I’m just prepared to serve the people of Southampton West Central and the people of Bermuda.”Mr Simmons congratulated his opponent, judging from the turnout he said: “Clearly there’s a lot of work yet to be done in this constituency.“I think the number of votes that I did get certainly explained to me that I have a lot more work to do. I have a lot more people to get to on the doorstep tomorrow and I’m looking forward to doing just that.“The Bermuda Progressive Labour Party continues to be the party that works for our people, and we will continue to do so no matter what the outcome will be.”Mr Swan congratulated the OBA and Mr Crockwell for a “comprehensive win”.“I really want to thank all the people who supported me with their assistance and with their vote,” he said. “I will be contemplating my political future but will always be available to be of service to my community and the Bermudian public in general.”Voter turnout was 73.5 percent with 881 votes cast with five spoiled ballots.RESULTS:Shawn Crockwell (OBA): 520Scott Simmons (PLP): 284Charles Swan (IND): 77
