BIU urges members to join 'Concerned Bermudians' demo
The Bermuda Industrial Union said yesterday that it is not involved with a planned march on the House of Assembly today. However in the same statement they urged their membership to take part.A spokeswoman for the Union said: “The public should be aware that the Bermuda Industrial [Union] is in no way involved the ‘March on Parliament’ that is scheduled to leave from Union Square.“However the BIU is encouraging its membership to participate in the demonstration organised by ‘Concerned Bermudians’ which is to begin at noon [today] on the grounds of the House of Assembly during their lunch break.”‘Concerned Bermudians’ announced the march earlier this week to protest the elimination of term limits and demand more consultation on the work permit policy. They have also called for Premier Craig Cannonier to remove Home Affairs Minister Michael Fahy from Cabinet if he does not apologise for his “condescending attitude” towards Bermudians. The One Bermuda Alliance said that the Government’s number one priority is regrowing the economy to provide jobs, while Mr Cannonier said: “The decision to abolish term limits was not made lightly, but was made after much deliberation and consultation.“As we stated, we will be a decisive government making decisions for the benefit of all Bermuda.”
