House: details on security cameras

More than 100 security cameras were installed around the Island by the beginning of December under a contract with the firm BAS-Serco, MPs heard in the House of Assembly.

The contract calls for 149 cameras — 19 of which have licence plate-reading capabilities — in 85 locations. As of November 30, 2014, 102 cameras had been put up at 58 sites.

The details were released by Michael Dunkley in his capacity as National Security Minister, in response to parliamentary questions from Shadow Minister Walter Roban.

By the end of November, 35 pan-tilt-zoom cameras, 53 fixed cameras and 14 licence plate cameras were up.

The contract spreads the capital and operational costs of the CCTV network and monitoring services over a 60-month period, at a monthly cost of $111,165.

Those expenses break down to $65,178 for equipment, $3,892 for maintenance and $42,093 for monitoring.

Since the contract has not yet commenced because not all the cameras have been installed, the Bermuda Police Service is covering ex-contract costs: monitoring expenses, plus $6,600 for fibre optic connection.

Two overseas companies have been taken on: Redline, for wireless design, and BQuad, for wireless implementation.

The other, local firms subcontracted were listed as: Belco, Keen Electrical, Universal Electrical, Kevin Constable Electrical, Sea-M Electrical, P&M Electrical, Ocean Interiors Construction, IF & M Building Access, XCaliber Ltd, Compass Networks, HPM, and Locus Ltd.
