Richard Ambrosio, head of the Charities Commission, is also working directly for the Attorney-General’s chamber, giving legal and policy advice.

Trevor Moniz told the House of Assembly that Mr Ambrosio had been taken on for a year, until September 1, at a salary of $92,000 a year.

The details came in response to questions from Progressive Labour Party MP Wayne Furbert.

Other Opposition MPs queried why a lawyer Called to the Bar only three years ago would be advising the Attorney-General, but Mr Moniz maintained that Mr Ambrosio was fresh and up-to-date, and able to take on tasks while more senior counsel were already burdened.

“It does not mean I’m not working with other lawyers,” Mr Moniz said.

David Burt, the Deputy Leader of the Opposition, queried why Mr Ambrosio had attended meetings of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), of which Mr Burt is chairman.

Mr Moniz said there had been scrutiny of the PAC, which has been handling the Auditor General’s report on the Port Royal Golf Course, which he said may be referred to the Attorney-General’s office.

Mr Burt noted that no complaints were made to the Director of Public Prosecutions concerning Port Royal.
