A motion calling for a joint select committee to be appointed to look at the historic issues surrounding immigration has been withdrawn by Progressive Labour Party MP Walton Brown.

The motion, which also called for the committee to report on its inquiries and make recommendations to Parliament, was taken off the order paper by Mr Brown on Wednesday night.

It came two days after an urgent motion to launch a joint select committee to tackle the issue of immigration was rejected in the House.
