Part of collection pot earmarked for Matthie
Twenty-five per cent of a collection pot amassed by immigration reform protesters will go to Enda Matthie.
Speaking yesterday, Bermuda Industrial Union president Chris Furbert suggested compensating Ms Matthie, who has been on a hunger strike since Tuesday March 8, “for the sacrifices she’s made”.
The crowd outside the House of Assembly agreed with Mr Furbert’s suggestion to give her a quarter of the funds they had raised for daily necessities.
Speaking to The Royal Gazette, Ms Matthie responded to the rumour that she had been consuming protein shakes during her hunger strike.
“I have heard a million things about what I’m doing on this hill — I’m eating, I’m drinking, I’m in my tent eating KFC,” she said.
“But those people who are on this hill, they know what the deal is. I’m not going back and forth to [the media] to answer questions, I’m not on this hill for that.
“I’m on this hill to sort out what’s going on in that House. I really don’t care what anybody else thinks or says.
“I don’t need validation; I’m very focused on what I’m doing, so I’m not interested in answering any questions like that.”
