Burch to run as independent
David William Burch is intending to run as an independent candidate in the Warwick South Central by-election, it has been reported.
According to Bernews.com, Mr Burch, who was born and raised in Warwick, is declaring as a candidate for Constituency 26 because “he feels the country does not have a viable choice of solutions between the PLP and the OBA”.
Parliamentary registrar Tenia Woolridge told The Royal Gazette that she was not able to confirm that Mr Burch was a candidate until nomination day on Monday, when candidates are officially announced. Neville Tyrrell and Robyn Swan were unveiled last month as candidates by the Progressive Labour Party and the One Bermuda Alliance respectively.
Mr Burch ran in the 2012 General Election in Warwick South East, where history was made when Lawrence Scott, of the PLP, replaced his father, Alex, as an MP. Mr Burch mustered a mere nine votes in a race that also included Alexis Swan for the OBA.
