Three Progressive Labour Party MPs will keep their House of Assembly seats at the next General Election after the One Bermuda Alliance failed to field a full slate of candidates.

Michael Weeks in Pembroke East Central, Jason Hayward in Pembroke Central and Neville Tyrrell in Warwick South Central were declared winners immediately after nominations closed at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Hamilton, at 1pm today.

The OBA will field 31 candidates, including Patricia Gordon-Pamplin, who will fight in Devonshire East against Christopher Famous, of the PLP, despite having been widely considered to have retired when she stepped down from Paget West this month.

The Opposition has no candidates in Pembroke East Central, Pembroke Central, Pembroke South East, Warwick South Central and Sandys South.

The Free Democratic Movement, formed by leader Marc Bean this month, will field 15 candidates in its first election.

Mr Bean will run in Sandys North, where he will take on Attorney-General Kathy Lynn Simmons and Jeff Sousa, of the OBA, for the seat formerly held by Michael Scott, of the PLP.

Other candidates for the FDM include Cheryl Packwood, the former director of the Government’s Washington office and CEO of Business Bermuda, former PLP Cabinet minister Patrice Minors, and activist LeYoni Junos.

12.50pm: Nick Kempe will stand for the OBA in Pembroke West Central, where he lost to the Premier at the last election, but describes his move as “more of a protest candidacy”.

12.30pm: Michael Dunkley, who is standing in Smith’s North, the seat he held in the last Parliament, says: “There can be no thought about doing anything but standing for re-election.” He says that Mr Cannonier asked him to “continue to serve”.

12.20pm: Karen Magnum will run for the OBA in Southampton West and Michael Cann in Sandys North Central. OBA leader Craig Cannonier insists Ms Gordon Pamplin had not retired.

12.15pm: Daquan Scott, 26, will be the OBA candidate for Southampton East.

12.10pm: It is understood Ms Gordon-Pamplin, who stepped down from Paget West and was thought to have retired, will run in another constituency.

12.10pm: James Perry will run for the OBA in St George’s North after being invited last night by his cousin, the former OBA MP Suzann Roberts-Holshouser. Mr Perry says: “They needed someone to run against Renée Ming. I’m a St George’s boy, lived there all my life. I’d like to get it built back up and in the right direction.”

Noon: Michael Dunkley, the former premier who many have speculated would not be involved as the OBA sought to retire its old guard, arrives with his nomination form.

Noon: Veteran MP Patricia Gordon-Pamplin is among the OBA contingent heading into the church hall.

11.55am: Zane DeSilva declares his wish to return to Cabinet: “I never stopped working. I continue to work behind the scenes with the ministry and with the Premier. I am ready to serve my Premier, my country and yes, the Cabinet if I can.”

11.50am: The first One Bermuda Alliance candidate is spotted, as Scott Pearman arrives at the church.

11.50am: Wayne Caines tells The Royal Gazette: “I never stopped serving. I’m focusing on our mandate, I will lead from the front and I’m ready and committed.”

11.45am: Supporters cheer and chant as the PLP candidates pose for a group photo.

11.35am: David Burt confirms the PLP is fielding a full slate of 36 candidates. He says: “The party is going to work towards every single vote.”
