Panel to discuss island’s ageing population

PLP MP Ianthia Simmons-Wade, who will lead a discussion on Bermuda’s ageing population tomorrow night.

The Ministry of Economy and Labour will tomorrow host a panel discussion aimed at increasing awareness of the challenge of Bermuda’s ageing population.

Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour, said: “This round-table discussion will provide a holistic approach to the problem and suggestions for how address it.

“It will be one of many exercises the ministry will conduct to develop a viable plan to address this challenge.”

PLP MP Ianthia Simmons-Wade will moderate the discussion, which will feature Claudette Fleming, Age Concern’s executive director, Mercedes Pringle-DeSilva, the charity’s operations manager, and Ricky Brathwaite, the CEO of the Bermuda Health Council.

Bermuda College senior lecturer and economist Craig Simmons and Steve Woodward, the managing director of KPMG, will also be on the panel.

The discussion will be live-streamed on the Government’s Facebook and YouTube channels as well as CITV at 6pm.
