Live: Throne Speech and Convening of the Legislature

Deputy Governor Tom Oppenheim delivers the Speech from the Throne (Photograph by Sarah Lagan)

The reading of the Throne Speech by Tom Oppenheim, the Deputy Governor, has concluded. We will be bringing further updates on details of the speech here and on the home page.

Mr Oppenheim was authorised by Rena Lalgie, the Governor, to deliver the speech after she tested positive for Covid-19.

It was the first time since 2018 that the Speech from the Throne is delivered on the Cabinet Lawn.

There was no traditional Convening of the Legislature in 2019 and the 2020 ceremony was held in the Town of St George, to mark the 400th anniversary of the first General Assembly being established in Bermuda in 1620.

Ms Lalgie delivered the Throne Speech last year at Veritas Place, where the House of Assembly started meeting when renovations began at Sessions House.
