MP donates $2,000 to Boulevard Blazers
A community youth programme in Pembroke benefited from a $2,000 donation from their area MP this morning.
Michael Weeks made the donation to Boulevard Blazers Youth Programme, a youth group that includes football clubs and mentorship for young people.
At a presentation at Victor Scott School, the Progressive Labour Party MP for Constituency 16, Pembroke East Central, said: “I am pleased to be here this morning to spread a bit of festive cheer to a group I happily support.
“As we are now in the season of giving, I am happy to do my part to give to a cause near and dear to me. It is no secret that I have a soft spot for our young people so I am pleased to acknowledge and support the work of a group who have my same passion.
“Today, I am presenting this check of $2,000 to the Boulevard Blazers Youth Programme to support their ongoing efforts to provide a positive outlet and mentorship to young people. It is well known that participation in sports, especially team activities, can have positive impact on young people.
“Although I am here today as an MP for the constituency of Pembroke East Central, supporting my constituents, when I put on my other hat as the Minister of National Security, I am constantly reminded of the need for positive activities for young people.
“When our young people are occupied in activities that interest them and pour into them, our country as a whole benefits. It is truly a blessing that I am able to make this contribution today to my community for a cause I fully believe in.”
Mr Weeks said the money would help to fund football jerseys and other items needed by the group.
