The Progressive Labour Party is to mark 60 years since its founding at a ceremony on March 5.

The party will hold its 60th annual Founder's Day and Drum Major Awards at the CedarBridge Academy cafeteria at 2pm.

This year’s speaker is the lawyer Ariana Caines, granddaughter of the late party leader and Attorney-General Dame Lois Browne-Evans.

The daughter of Tina Evans and Glenn Caines, she attended the Berkeley Institute and the Bermuda College before earning a First Class law degree from Buckingham University.

Ms Caines was Called to the Bar of England and Wales, 65 years after her grandmother.

She is a practising barrister at Conyers as well as an author.

Described as passionate about the island’s youth, Ms Caines is chairwoman for the National Youth Policy.

Entertainment for the ceremony will be provided by Shine Hayward, Cindy Smith, and One Body in Christ For God’s Purpose.

Tickets are available for purchase at Alaska Hall, the party headquarters on Court Street, with party members and supporters invited to attend.

General tickets are $60, with patron tickets at $120.
