Ewart Brown remembers Stanley Morton

A former premier paid tribute to a veteran Progressive Labour Party MP and worker rights activist.

Ewart Brown, who was premier from 2006 until 2010, said Stanley Morton, who represented Pembroke East Central for most of his political career, served his constituents and the country “with distinction”.

“He often recalled, for those of us who were not present, how difficult it was to navigate life in Bermuda as a PLP Member of Parliament 50 years ago,” Dr Brown added.

“His uncanny ability to reduce the lofty language of Parliament to the simple language of the street will be sadly missed.”

First elected to Parliament in 1968, Mr Morton represented Pembroke East Central until 1985 and again from 1989 until retiring in 2003.

Mr Morton died on Wednesday, aged 87.
