A veteran businessman and a senator will be representing the opposition One Bermuda Alliance at the next General Election.

Entrepreneur Joseph Marable is the candidate for Constituency 6, Hamilton West, while senator Robin Tucker will be standing in Constituency 7, Hamilton South, the party confirmed today.

Mr Marable has 40 years of experience in the sales industry and has managed or co-owned a number of businesses in Bermuda and the US, including Crawl Hill Esso Tiger Market, Panache Boutique, and Changes Salon.

He was educated in the United States, and studied marketing at Hampton University in Virginia.

Mr Marable is also a professional photographer and is passionate about volunteering and giving back to the community.

In a statement, he said: “I love to volunteer because it allows me to give back, especially to those most in need. Growing up, I remember my parents always telling me and my siblings, ‘What you need, we will provide — a roof over your head, clothing and food in your stomach. What you want, we can’t promise’.”

He has worked closely with the parish’s Francis Patton School after attending an assembly in 2010.

He said: “I went and was amazed at what was going on with the school, the synergy the children’s enthusiasm, the teachers, staff and parents is what ultimately encouraged me to assist in whatever way I could.”

Mr Marable believes he can have a positive impact, not just in his community, but in the island as a whole.

He said: “People are hurting. We live in a crazy world. It is my hope to continue to do my best to support and be a voice for those who are struggling to make ends meet. If everyone does a little, a lot gets done.”

Hamilton West is held by transport minister Wayne Furbert, who comfortably saw off the OBA’s Simone Barton by 634 votes to 162 at the 2020 General Election.

Ms Tucker was born in Bermuda but spent a number of her formative years living in the United States. Returning to the island, she lived in Warwick and Devonshire.

She spent several years volunteering as a crisis intervention counsellor with the Women’s Resource Centre.

She also trained in New York City to co-facilitate a cognitive restructuring programme at the Co-Educational Facility for female inmates, along with families on low incomes.

A graduate of Warwick Secondary School and the Bermuda College, Ms Tucker has a degree in psychology from York University, Toronto.

She also holds senior professional human resources certifications and has 15 years of HR experience, holding senior positions in the legal and hospitality industries.

She has worked extensively for Bermuda’s two largest law firms, Conyers and Appleby.

Ms Tucker has been married for 35 years, and has two children and several grandchildren. She loves spending quality time with her family and friends, learning about leadership, and travelling.

Ms Tucker represented the OBA in the constituency at the 2020 General Election.

The Progressive Labour Party’s Anthony Richardson won the marginal seat with 422 votes. Ms Tucker secured 326 votes and the Free Democratic Movement’s Cheryl Packwood came third with 89 votes.
