A weeklong programme of events has been designed to link young people to policymakers.

The first iView National 18+ Youth Conference, organised by the Office of Youth Affairs, started on Monday and will run until Sunday.

A government spokeswoman said that the scheme aimed to "bridge the gap between young adults in Bermuda and the policymakers dedicated to their welfare“.

She added: “Through a week of engagement, the iView conference offers a platform for Bermudians aged 18+ to voice their ideas, concerns and solutions.

“The conference includes activities designed to gather meaningful feedback and foster dialogue.”

An online engagement feature encouraged young adults to join the conversation as topics included the cost of living, education, employment, antisocial behaviour, diversity and inclusion.

Tomorrow, the youth affairs office will host “Happy Hour Invasions” at venues across the island.

The spokeswoman explained: “These brief yet engaging interactions aim to inform young adults about the conference and invite them to share their perspectives.”

She added that radio personality Alex Symone will host a “County Couch” event at the Eastern Counties first round at St David's County Cricket Club on Saturday.

The spokeswoman said: “Attendees can participate in discussions on key conference topics.

“There will also be fun activities, giveaways and an opportunity to learn more about Toya's [the Office of Youth Affairs’] efforts.”

An event at Ocean View Golf Course on Sunday will feature “a brunch designed to inspire and educate”.

Alongside a day party, the gathering will highlight young Bermudians making significant contributions to the community as they lead discussions.

Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, said: “This is a unique opportunity for Bermuda's young adults to influence the programmes and services that affect their lives.

“We are committed to listening and learning from their experiences and invite all young Bermudians to participate in this pivotal event that can help shape the future of our community. The event is free of charge.”
