Youth voter registration drive on next week

A youth organisation will lead a voter-registration drive in Hamilton next week to make sure that young people are prepared to vote at the next election.

Bermuda Youth Connect, an organisation which was set up in the wake of the 2020 General Election to create civic awareness and engagement among young people, will partner with Bermuda is Love to host the event outside City Hall on August 21.

A BYC spokeswoman said young voters could check their voter eligibility status at the event, which will run from 11am to 5pm.

They will also have an opportunity to connect with their constituency representatives and win fun giveaways.

Following the resignation last week of Kathy Lynn-Simmons, from the Progressive Labour Party, as its representative for Sandys North, a by-election was called for the constituency.

The BYC spokeswoman said: “If you live in Constituency 36, Sandys North, there is no better time than now to get ready to vote in the by-election.”

The organisation said it was “eager to involve more young people interested in civic engagement, political discourse” and more.

Voters can check which constituency they live in by visiting elections.gov.bm, looking under “Constituencies” and clicking on “Find my Constituency” or “Constituency Boundaries”.

Anyone between the ages of 16 and 30 who would like to participate in by-election interviews and other pre-election events, can reach out to the organisation at bermudayouthconnect@gmail.com or @bermudayouthconnect on all social media platforms

You must be Registered or to post comment or to vote.
