Changes to ministerial responsibilities were revealed by the Cabinet Office yesterday.

They were made by the Governor, Rena Lalgie, on the advice of David Burt, the Premier.

The Department of Corrections moved from the Ministry of National Security to the Ministry of Justice, which is held by Kim Wilkerson, who was sworn-in as the Attorney-General this week.

The national security ministry took control of responsibility for drug prevention and the Department of National Drug Control, which earlier came under the Ministry of Legal Affairs.

Liquor licensing and golf courses were moved to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport. They were earlier the responsibilities of the national security and public works ministries respectively.

Consumer affairs and land licenses were moved from the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs to the Ministry of Economy and Labour.

The home affairs ministry took over responsibility for intellectual property matters, which earlier came under the Ministry of the Cabinet Office.

A government spokeswoman said that a revised notice setting out the full assignment of ministerial responsibilities was gazetted.

She added: “These changes reflect a stronger alignment of portfolios to support the government's execution on policy initiatives for the people of Bermuda.”
