Nevis leader on island for talks on deepening ties
Bermuda has shared avenues for mutual growth and deepening ties with St Kitts & Nevis after the Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley, called on the island.
David Burt, the Premier, welcomed Mr Brantley to talks yesterday at the Cabinet Office on shared cultural and economic ties, and further opportunities for mutual growth in the areas of education, tourism and business
Mr Burt highlighted Bermuda’s links with St Kitts & Nevis, with many Bermudians able to trace their ancestry to the Caribbean nation from migration in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Upcoming relationship-building visits include delegations from the Azores and Ghana aimed at strengthening cultural ties and fostering opportunities for mutual learning and economic partnerships.
Mr Burt said: “We very much look forward to hosting these visits.
“Each one is unique in its own way, but they all represent a significant step towards deepening our international relationships, celebrating our cultural heritage, and exploring new avenues for collaboration and growth.”
The Azores and Bermuda will celebrate the 175th anniversary of Portuguese settlement on the island next month.
Mr Burt said the event stood as “a testament to the enduring connection and shared history that enriches both the Azores and Bermuda”.
He added: “Similarly, my discussions with Premier Brantley also highlighted our strong historical ties and the potential to expand our countries’ relationship for mutual benefit.”
A government spokeswoman said next month would also see a visit from Grenada, offering an opportunity to explore and enhance cultural and economic ties between the two islands.
