Mischa Fubler sworn in as new government senator
A Progressive Labour Party election candidate was sworn in yesterday as a government senator.
Mischa Fubler was appointed to the role by the Governor, Rena Lalgie, on the advice of the Premier, David Burt.
It was with immediate effect and will be followed by an appointment as a junior minister, a government statement said.
Mr Fubler attended CedarBridge Academy, before continuing his education abroad at York University in Toronto, Canada, where he obtained a BA in Urban Studies.
He also holds a MSc in Information Systems from Brooklyn College in New York.
Mr Fubler leads a team of software developers at a Bermudian-based international reinsurance company as the assistant vice-president of applications and management information.
According to the statement, he also regularly volunteers for local youth outreach opportunities, sharing his IT journey and career advice with middle and high school students.
Mr Fubler was announced in September as a PLP contender for Southampton East Central at the next General Election. He previously ran as a candidate in the by-election for Smith’s South in October 2023, when he was beaten by Ben Smith, of the One Bermuda Alliance.
His appointment to the Upper House comes after the death of government senator Leslie Robinson, 57.
At the time of her passing, Mr Burt said: “She was a passionate advocate for our community, championing fairness and steady progress towards a fairer Bermuda in her roles as Junior Minister of Economy and Labour and Public Works.”
