PLP holds Warwick Community Connect event
A Community Connect event this week was hailed by the Progressive Labour Party and its Warwick branches as an “overwhelming success”.
The forum provided an opportunity for PLP representatives to meet residents and community leaders at Warwick Workmen’s Club, where they discussed public concerns and goals.
It included a presentation from Kim Wilkerson, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, who spoke about the Government’s efforts “to ensure fairness, justice and opportunity for all Bermudians”, the party said.
Arianna Hodgson, a senator and the PLP’s election candidate for Warwick North East, added: “The turnout for Community Connect was truly inspiring.
“It was wonderful to see so many residents actively engaging, asking thoughtful questions and sharing their ideas.
“Senator Kim Wilkerson’s presentation provided valuable insights into the Government’s work and we are grateful for her dedication towards pushing for a fairer judiciary for all of us.”
Discussions during the session covered a range of important topics such as incorporating a restorative justice approach within government agencies, reforms to landlord and tenant laws, amendments to the Youth Offenders Act, and revisiting cannabis laws to reflect modern times.
The Bermuda Equal Justice Initiative, a non-profit justice advocacy group, applauded the Attorney-General for organising the event.
A spokesman for the organisation said: “The event was well attended and featured thought-provoking and engaging discussions in an inviting atmosphere.
“Community members had the opportunity to engage directly with Attorney-General Wilkerson, who listened attentively and responded thoughtfully to everyone’s questions.
“It was evident throughout the evening that Attorney-General Wilkerson is deeply committed to and passionate about justice reform in Bermuda.”
