Leaflets update public on government programmes

Households across Bermuda will receive pamphlets about government initiatives in their mailboxes over the coming weeks.

The documents highlight policies from the Government’s Midyear Budget Review and the 2024-25 Speech from the Throne.

The Midyear Budget Review, unveiled by David Burt in September, included a $25 million investment package.

The Premier and Minister of Finance said the package reflected the Government’s “commitment to invest in tackling the social challenges facing Bermuda” such as antisocial behaviour, mental health challenges and domestic abuse.

The midyear review also allocated the Ministry of Public Works an additional $3.47 million.

The Ministry of Education was boosted by $1.55 million as well as a $700,000 capital grant.

Proposals from the Speech from the Throne, delivered last month, included expanding affordable housing and increasingBermuda’s minimum wage.

What is mentioned in the pamphlet

• An additional $3.5 millionfor the Corporate Income Tax Agency

• $2.8 million for capital projects that will enhance Bermuda’s infrastructure

• $2.2 million to increase the number of police officers

• $1.7 million for additional mental healthcare and support services

• An additional $1.5 million to support vulnerable families, seniors and at-risk youth

• $850,000 to build a daycare centre for seniors

A government spokeswoman said: “The household mailers are just one way that the Government is seeking to engage with residents and provide them with key information about the numerous programmes and policies being implemented to support Bermudians.

“This is in addition to its digital, traditional and social-media outreach.”
