Sweeping updates to voter registry
The office that heads voter registration has processed thousands of changes as the public readies for the General Election.
Tenia Woolridge, the Parliamentary Registrar, said that her office was in the midst of processing voter forms.
She added that all updates, including the removal of deceased and incarcerated people and updating residents at rest homes, were expected to be completed tomorrow.
Ms Woolridge said: “So far, we have processed 722 first-time registrations and 1,295 changes, with additional forms still to be completed in the coming days.
“The revised register will be published on Tuesday, January 21, in accordance with Section 26A (b) of the Parliamentary Election Act 1978. The objection period will run from January 22 to January 28.
“Voters can check their registration details on our website under the ‘Am I Registered?’ tab.”
The Progressive Labour Party said it spent the past week registering members of the public to vote.
Registration drives were held at The Berkeley Institute in Pembroke, CedarBridge Academy and Elliott Primary in Devonshire, Harrington Workmen’s Club in Hamilton Parish and Allen Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church in Sandys.
Progressive Minds, the youth wing of the PLP, organised a voter-registration drive at the Bermuda College in Paget.
