Governor welcomes résumés for aspiring senators
The new Governor of Bermuda has put out a call for expressions of interest for members of the public to become independent senators.
Andrew Murdoch encouraged “qualified persons” to put forward a cover letter and CV that would be considered if vacancies in the Senate arise.
Mr Murdoch said: “The work of senators is vital to an effective legislature and the making of laws for the peace, order and good government of Bermuda.
“I would encourage all those qualified individuals who believe they possess the requisite knowledge, skills and experience to make an effective contribution to the work of the Senate to submit an expression of interest.”
Qualifications for placement on the Senate, as outlined in Chapter III of the Bermuda Constitution 1968, require applicants to be a Commonwealth citizen with Bermudian status and age 21 or older.
The cover letter must state why the applicant is interested in serving as a governor-appointed senator and what the applicant has to offer to the role, as well as confirmation that one meets the requirements of eligibility for membership.
The CV must not be longer than two pages.
Expressions of interest must be submitted to Government House by 5pm on February 10, and can be done by e-mailing governmenthouse@gov.bm.
