Robin Tucker turned the tables on Anthony Richardson by clinching Hamilton South (Constituency 7).

Ms Tucker, who lost to Mr Richardson in 2020, pointed to her direct contact with the electorate since that defeat as one of the main reasons for her victory. Of the 764 ballots cast at Harrington Sound Primary School, she secured 384. The outgoing MP got 315 and Iman Gibbons, an independent candidate, polled 65.

“It feels fantastic because historically this has been an OBA seat ,” Ms Tucker said.

“Anthony Richardson won the seat in 2020, so it feels really good to be able to flip it back to the OBA.

“I’ve been canvassing since 2020. It's been about being on the doorstep and meeting with constituents and learning about concerns. I can’t speak to what the PLP has been doing all these years, all I know is that since 2020 I've put my head down, run my race, and today is the result of that work.

“Tonight will be about celebrating, but this is actually where the real work begins. Now it’s about regrouping and getting on with the work that needs to be done.”

“We have to connect more with the constituents, doing what I can to make sure that I support them. They put their trust in me which I’m very grateful for, and I don’t intend to let them down.”

Mr Richardson’s comment was a brief: “Congratulations to MP Robin Tucker.”

Ms Tucker was appointed the Opposition Leader in the Senate in September 2023. She highlighted that the concerns of her electorate were not different from those of the rest of Bermuda.

“C7 is not different from what the rest of the island is concerned about,” she said. “I've spoken several times about the concerns. These are national concerns, I guess everybody is already hearing about the education system, healthcare and infrastructure.

“We also have regional things. Some of our people would like to see some of the overhead wires underground. Some seniors have told me there are areas where there are no bus shelters. So those are some of the things we have to address.

“This is a very close-knit community. I look forward to supporting them as best as I can”.

There was a 59.15 per cent turnout by voters in the constituency.

Ms Tucker said: “It would have been wonderful to have a higher turnout. There were 764 people that voted and there are 1,290 registered voters in this constituency. I’m still grateful to those that came out and voted for me.”
