Legislators to debate Reply to Throne Speech
Four months after the Opposition threw down the gauntlet in calling for a General Election, MPs are set to hear a second Reply to the Throne Speech.
The response to the Speech from the Throne delivered last Friday is expected to dominate today’s debate in the House of Assembly.
Jarion Richardson, the Leader of the Opposition, called the Government’s legislative agenda short on substance after the reading — noting that despite the Progressive Labour Party’s victory at the polls on February 18, the One Bermuda Alliance and other non-PLP candidates combined received more votes.
Ministers will read nine statements on subjects ranging from an actuarial review of government’s pension plans to strengthening lifeguard coverage.
Three items will be tabled today for debate at the next sitting of the House.
The Corporate Income Tax (Penalty Provisions) Amendment Act 2025 will be tabled by David Burt, the Premier, and amendments to the Employment Act and Municipalities Act are also on the agenda.
