Enduring partnership between Bermuda and Canada reaffirmed
Trade, education and travel were among the topics covered when the Premier met representatives of the Canadian Government on the island.
David Burt welcomed Tom Clark, the Consul-General of Canada in New York, and his deputy, Geoff Gartshore, when they visited for the 2025 Bermuda Risk Summit.
The Government said that the meeting focused on “reinforcing the strong relationship” between the two countries and exploring opportunities for greater collaboration.
It added: “Discussions covered key areas such as trade, education and travel, with both sides expressing interest in enhancing economic ties, increasing student enrolment in Canadian institutions and improving air connectivity between the two jurisdictions.
“The meeting reaffirmed the longstanding partnership between Bermuda and Canada and the commitment to ongoing dialogue on matters of mutual interest.”
Mr Burt said: “In these times of global economic uncertainty, it is imperative that we strengthen our partnerships with steadfast allies like Canada.
“Our discussions were not just about enhancing trade, education and travel, they were about fortifying our resilience against external challenges.
“By deepening our collaboration, we aim to ensure that Bermuda remains a beacon of stability and prosperity, while also working to support our people and address the rising cost of living.”
Mr Clark added: “We are on the precipice of a new era of Canada-Bermuda relations — one that will be richer for all.”
