XL expects tornado losses up to $75m

XL Group plc expects to suffer losses of up to $75 million from the tornado outbreaks in the US over the past two months.The global business insurer, which is based in Ireland but has substantial operations in Bermuda, said it expected net losses related to the severe weather occurrences, including the tornado outbreaks that affected the Midwest and southeastern US over the periods April 22-28 and May 20-23, 2011, to range from range from $50 million to $75 million.The majority of these losses will be attributable to XL’s reinsurance segment, the company said.XL said its preliminary estimates are based on its review of individual treaties and policies expected to be impacted along with available client data.
