Law firm holds panel on impact of Dodd-Frank

Law firm Drinker Biddle & Reath hosted a panel discussion and Q&A on the impact of the Dodd-Frank Act on the Bermuda insurance market.The event, which was sponsored by the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Services (BFIS), was attended by some 40 Bermuda insurance executives and senior in-house counsel and compliance managers.Panellists were Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Thomas Consedine; Thomas Glassic, general counsel of the District of Columbia Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking and former counsel to Rep Barney Frank as chair of the House Financial Services Committee; and Michael Byrne, partner, Drinker Biddle’s Corporate and Securities Practice Group.Dan Krane, also a partner in the firm’s Corporate and Securities practice group, served as moderator.The panel discussed a wide range of topics including the newly established Federal Insurance Office and Federal Advisory Committee on Insurance on which Commissioner Consedine serves, collaboration among US and non-US regulators in supervising international insurance groups, potential SEC and CFTC regulation of some insurance products as swaps, and the Nonadmitted and Reinsurance Reform Act enacted as part of Dodd-Frank.
