Two new insurance companies and an insurance broker incorporated in Bermuda in July.Broker Link Ltd, Class 2 insurer Nostec Insurance Ltd and Class C insurer Aurigen Reinsurance Ltd all set up on the Island last month.Bermuda Monetary Authority registration statistics show that the total of new insurers incorporated in the first seven months of this year was 26.Half of these were special purpose insurers, a category that is dominated by vehicles for insurance-linked securities, such as cat bonds.Five intermediaries — four managers and a broker — have also added to the Island’s insurance market.The only Class 4 company to set up this year was SAC Re Ltd, a company backed by hedge fund manager Steven Cohen’s SAC Capital Advisors.
